Paul Finch is Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Kao Data, where he is responsible for operations including data centre design, delivery, engineering, and product strategy. His current focus is bringing the company’s first, Kao London One Data Centre to full operational condition for a December 2017 go-live date.
Paul has nearly 30 years of progressive experience, with over a decade operating at a senior management level, focused on data centres, technical real estate and complex infrastructure. His contribution to the industry and standing within the data centre community was recognized by Data Economy in its EMEA 50: Top Influencers in Data Centres, Cloud and Data 2017 listing.
Prior to joining Kao, Paul was engaged as Senior Director at Digital Realty (NYSE: DLR), where he was responsible for driving innovation, creating and executing complex data centre development and infrastructure strategy across EMEA (and formally APAC).
He joined Digital Realty from CBRE (NYSE:CBG), where he led their London engineering management business unit as Director. Additionally, Paul has another 18 years’ experience variously employed in engineering, construction and project management roles, working with customers in sectors from Banking & Financial Services to Oil & Gas, Technology, Media, Telecommunications and the Internet.
Paul Finch has also been engaged at a policy level representing the data centre industry, having made formal representation in both the US and EU on future data centre policy, standards and legislation. He holds a BSc(Hons) in Building Services Engineering from London South Bank University, PgDip in Engineering Management from Brunel University and has completed the General Management Programme at the University of Cambridge, Judge Business School.
An impressive list of technical credentials includes: Chartered Engineer (CEng) registered with the UK Engineering Council; Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE); Member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers (MASHRAE). Paul is also an Voting Executive Committee Member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9 (TC9.9) – Mission Critical Facilities, Data Centres, Technology Spaces and Electronic Equipment, representing data centre owners and operators.
