Paul Finch Appointed As Chief Technical Officer Of Kao DATA Campus

London, 1 June 2016 – KAO Data Campus has appointed Paul Finch as Chief Technical Officer of its state-of-the-art campus data centre at KAO Park, which is set to become a new destination for discovery and innovation on the outskirts of London. His core responsibility will be for operations, including data centre development, design and construction as well as product strategy for the campus that will officially open at the beginning of 2017.

Paul is a Chartered Engineer with over 28 years of progressive experience across the real estate life-cycle. He has arguably unmatched global experience across EMEA, APAC and North America leading strategically complex, technical real estate development and asset operations from inception.

Prior to joining KAO Data Campus, Paul worked for Digital Realty Trust, a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) that owns, acquires and develops technology related real estate. Paul was responsible for the technical underwriting of large scale EMEA investment programmes. Major assignments include Rackspace in London, a major development; and the pre-acquisition technical due-diligence and development of Jurong in Singapore. Over his career, Paul has also held senior roles at CBRE and a number of engineering and project management consulting practices

KAO Data Campus will become one of the UK’s largest campus data centres when it comes on stream. The technical capability, hyper-connectivity, secure data resilience and scalable flexibility will ensure the future activity in research and development.

KAO Park is named after Nobel prize-winning scientist Charles Kao. This year the site will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the discovery of fibre optic cable which, along with George Hockham in 1966, Charles discovered the technology behind the fibre optic cable which revolutionised the world of optical communications.

This site is the first part of the Harlow Enterprise Zone to be delivered and is strategically located in the emerging life sciences belt of the London-Stansted-Cambridge corridor. It will be the only campus near London to provide occupiers with Grade A office accommodation (215,000 sq ft) and an onsite data centre campus. The Enterprise Zone and London-Stansted-Cambridge corridor have already received strong interest from life science businesses and organisations, such as Public Health England, defence innovation specialist Raytheon UK, and electronics supplier Arrow Electronics, which have further established the region as one of scientific discovery.

As well as being a Chartered Engineer registered with the UK Engineering Council, Paul is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers and an Accredited Tier Designer by Uptime Institute. He is also an active Voting Executive Committee Member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9 (TC9.9) – Mission Critical Facilities, Data Centres, Technology Spaces and Electronic Equipment. Paul holds a Bachelor of Science in Building Services Engineering from London South Bank University, a Post Graduate Diploma in Engineering Management from London Brunel University, and completed the University of Cambridge General Management Programme.
