BOOST Wellbeing offers free sport and physical activity sessions, including boxing, weight training, and dance, for people experiencing mental ill health. These classes aim to improve self-confidence, build resilience, and create social connections. In collaboration with the NHS, social care, and the voluntary sector, BOOST supports individuals in managing their mental health through physical activity.
The Kao SEED funding will support the expansion of the "Find Your Strength" programme, which focuses on delivering strength-based exercise classes designed for older individuals, particularly those experiencing mental ill health or social isolation. The programme will incorporate a variety of exercises aimed at building muscle strength, improving physical health, and enhancing cognitive function.
The "Find Your Strength" project will support individuals in middle to later life, particularly those experiencing mental ill health, social isolation, or perimenopausal symptoms. The programme will target around 20-30 participants in total, who will be referred through self-referrals or local organisations and community groups. The project aims to help participants improve their physical and mental fitness, boost self-confidence, and foster social connections, offering a supportive environment where they can build new friendships and engage in strength-based exercise that enhances both physical and cognitive health.
Outcomes will be tracked using recognised clinical models and questionnaires to assess improvements in wellbeing. Attendance, participation frequency, and likelihood of sustained activity will also be monitored. Additionally, qualitative measures will be prioritised, focusing on individual lifestyle changes and long-term impacts. Participant satisfaction, personal benefits, and the broader impact of involvement will be captured through feedback and case studies, with participants' consent.
