Kao Data Campus Ranked in Top10 Business Environments (East Anglia) in 2021 ‘New Year Honours’

Kao Data are delighted to announce that our data centre campus in Harlow has been ranked in the Top 10 Business Environments for East Anglia following publication of the prestigious ‘2021 New Year Honours’ compiled annually by Business Weekly newspaper.

The Business Environments Award identifies on an annual basis those science and research parks within the East Anglia region that are providing the infrastructure and platform for terrific advances in innovation and technology development.

To be listed amongst some of the most celebrated science and research parks in the country, and the Eastern region, including Cambridge Science Park, Babraham Research Campus, Granta Park and St Johns Innovation Park is fantastic recognition of the innovation and technical expertise on which Kao Data's campus is founded.

The innovation and discovery originating out of the famed 'Cambridge Cluster' is nothing short of awe-inspiring – and Kao Data exists as a critical backbone to this, now and in the future. We are proud to underpin such innovation – supporting companies with high performance computing (HPC) requirements across the pioneering life sciences, bioinformatics, artificial Intelligence (AI), technology, financial and research sectors.

Our Harlow campus - built on the site of Sir Charles Kao’s pioneering discovery of fibre optic cable in 1966 - is a world class home to a number of organisation's supercomputing deployments, and we continue to work hard to develop our services and partnerships.

Only last week, we were proud to announce our part in the ‘triple alliance’ behind Light Blue Fibre, a new network linking Cambridge research institutions and enterprises to global sites. Together with Light Blue Fibre Ltd and bandwidth infrastructure provider, euNetworks, we are able to facilitate direct, fast and latest generation connectivity to the Cambridge parks, paving the way for greater HPC and AI collaboration.

Last month, Kao Data was also behind a select roundtable gathering of some of the most influential thought leaders in the Cambridge technology ecosystem to explore Cambridge’s advanced computing landscape. Leaders from University of Cambridge, Huawei Technologies R&D UK, EMBL-EBI, Wellcome Sanger Institute and Arm discussed the potential of developing a dedicated HPC and AI roadmap for the city.

On the 2021 New Year Honours news, Kao Data VP, Spencer Lamb said: “We are absolutely delighted to be recognised in this way. Entering the listings at No 9 is a huge achievement for us and our team's work – but it’s also an indication of the growing importance of state-of-the-art, industrial-scale data centres like Kao Data as businesses and organisations ramp up their supercomputing demands.”
