Open Road Visions

Open Road Visions supports individuals, families and communities affected by drugs, alcohol and related challenges, helping people reduce harm, recover and build positive futures. The Resilient Patch extends Open Road’s Walled Garden Community Project, using a safe outdoor space and shared gardening activity to support recovery, skills-building and wellbeing.

What will the Kao SEED Fund support?

The funding will provide essential new gardening equipment and materials for the Walled Garden Community Project, replacing worn tools and enabling the garden to grow. Items include plants, soil, seeds, tools, gloves and basic refreshments, ensuring the space remains welcoming, productive and safe for increasing numbers of participants.

Who is the project helping support?

The project supports Open Road clients in or after treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, many facing loneliness, poor mental health and barriers to employment. It offers structure, purpose and social connection in a supportive environment, while volunteers with lived experience also benefit from meaningful roles within an inclusive community initiative.

Impact of the project

The project aims to increase participants’ confidence, friendships and mental and physical wellbeing through regular gardening and group activity. Impact will be seen in consistent attendance, positive feedback, people taking on new responsibilities, and a flourishing garden that visibly reflects recovery, teamwork, pride and reconnection with the wider community.
