Kao Data and NVIDIA Win 'Data Center Operations Team of the Year' at the DCD Awards 2021

Kao Data is delighted to announce that we have won the 2021 DCD Award for ‘Data Center Operations Team of the Year’ in collaboration with NVIDIA.

This accolade was for our work to support NVIDIA’s Cambridge-1 deployment – the UK’s fastest and most powerful supercomputer. This ground-breaking project was delivered in a record-breaking 20 weeks and during the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Founding partners on the Cambridge-1 project include AstraZeneca, GSK, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, King’s College London, and Oxford Nanopore and initial projects include developing a deeper understanding of dementia, cancer, and other serious diseases, while accelerating drug discovery and genome sequencing.

The work being undertaken on Cambridge-1 is transformative, but equally impressive is that the supercomputer was commissioned, built, and deployed in just 20 weeks, and during the most acute months of a global pandemic. Working together, the operations teams at both NVIDIA and Kao Data have enabled something truly astonishing to unfold at our Harlow campus, and there can be no more fitting achievement to recognise within the industry than the rapid-speed and world-class operational deployment of a supercomputer that will strengthen the UK’s ability to respond to future pandemics and healthcare scenarios.

Many congratulations to all the winners on the night. You can read more about this incredible project and our work with NVIDIA in this blog.
